Introducing your hosts

Thank you for considering staying with us. We know how hard it can be to find time to travel, relax or connect with family and friends - so we work hard to deliver your best possible stay.

Kimberly & Darren are you hosts at Harper’s Cottage Malmsbury and The Botanist’s Retreat in Castlemaine.

Kimberly is originally from Ballarat, but spent most of her adult years in Melbourne (other than brief stints living in the UK and USA). Darren is originally from Woodend and has lived in the region his entire life. They both live together in Malmsbury, along with retired guide dog breeder Harper (who the Malmsbury cottage is named for), not far from Harper’s Cottage.

“We love to travel around Australia and internationally. But we also love our region! It’s truly beautiful and there’s so many lovely cafes, restaurants, shops, wineries and more to explore, along with the natural beauty of nature at your doorstep.

By hosting at the two cottages, we’re thrilled to give people a beautiful base to explore the Daylesford Macedon Ranges and the Goldfields Region.

We have been hosting for six years. Whilst it is a lot of work, knowing we’ve given someone a fabulous stay is so rewarding. Every five star review we receive - almost 200 of them now - truly makes our day!”

Harper was a “brooidie” for Guide Dogs Victoria.
She had three litters - a total of 23 puppies. We donate $10 from every stay to Guide Dogs Victoria in honour of her huge contribution.
Haper is now fully retired and loves her country life.
